The trip will start in Siem Reap where mountain bikes are prepared and the guide will brief on the cycling tour. Discover Angkor temple complex both on the back road and shady road with tree lines. There are one temple in every km, so it won"t be boring. From Siem Reap, we will cross Tonle Sap lake by boat to see the floating village. Then cycling along the west side of Tonle Sap lake to Phnom Penh. The hard final part is when we approach Sihanuk Ville as there are some climbs.

We ride approximately 519 km mostly on asphalt roads and sometimes broken road or vehicle-width dirt roads, which may be smooth, gritty, stony, rocky, rutted, loose or hard-packed.

The trip is one of the best trip to explore whole Cambodia on the 2 wheels. We visit not just the Angkor historical park but also Phnom Penh and the southern part of Takeo, the former capital of Khmer Empire in the first century then the beach from Kep, Kampot to Sihanuk Ville.

 

Day 1: Siem Reap-Angkor Complex (25km by bicycle)cambodia-adventure1
Depart from the hotel on the main road and cycling through Angkor pass check point. Cycling through the shady road with a little pumping because of the a few pot-holes. There you will begin to see Kravan temple, Banteay Kdei, and stop at the famous Ta Phrom, embraced by the roots of enormous fig trees and gigantic creepers. Visit Ta Phrom (45 minutes-1 hour). It was built in 12th century by the famous King Jayavarvan VII indicated to his mother. While clearing back the forest archaeologists decided to leave the vegetation of Ta Phrom in place to serve as a reminder of how the original discoverers found it and the other Angkor temples. Many of the trees have grown around and through the remains and soar high above the temples. Continue the cycling through small circuit passing Ta Keo temple, Chao Say Tevoda, Tommanon before reaching to Angkor Thom city. There you will see, Terrace of Leper King, Terrace of Elephant, Baphoun, Phimean Akas. Stop at Bayon temple and start the visit (45 minutes-1 hour). Angkor Thom built by Cambodia"s great king, Jayavarman VII. Overnight in Siem Reap. (B,L,D)

 

Day 2: Grand Circuit Temples (40km by bicycle)cambodia-adventure2
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart from the hotel on the main road. Turn right at Jayavarman VII Children Hospital. Begin the visit with Pre Rup which was built in before Angkor period and belief to serve as the cremation temple. Then continue to cycle to East Mebon and Ta Som, Neak Pean. Stop for the visit at Preah Khan temple. Preah Khan means sword was built by the King Jayavarman VII indicated to his father. The temple was built on the battlefield where Khmer soldiers succeeded over Siam military. Overnight in Siem Reap.

 

Day 3: Banteay Srei & Lingas (90km by bicycle) cambodia-adventure3
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart from the hotel on the main road. Arrive at Angkor Wat and turn left to the west. Continue to cycle 2km before turn right to the rural road. The road is good for cycling as you can avoid the busy traffic but you can see rice field, village, pagoda. Arrive in Banteay Srei before lunch. Visit (45 minutes) Banteay Srei temple known as women citadel (built in 967 A.D dedicated to Brahma). While some of temples are impressive because of their sheer size, Banteay Srei stands alone in the quality of its construction and decoration. Its pink sandstone walls are decorated with what some consider the best carving of all, and still an excellent state of preservation. Continue cycling to visit Kbal Spean, the River of Thousands Lingas, lying under the river bed, people believe it brings fertility and blessing Angkor area as the river flows to Siem Reap. Walk 1,200meters to visit the Lingas and enjoy lunch and the water fall. On the way back, cycle on the main road to visit Landmine Museum of Mr. Akira. Mr. Ra is dedicated to clearing the Cambodian countryside of landmines laid during the years of conflict and relies entirely on visitors" donation to fund his work. Overnight in Siem Reap.

 

Day 4: Siem Reap-Kampong Chhnang (18km) cambodia-adventure4
Early morning, transfer to board the speedboat on Tonle Sap to Kampong Chhnang. Visit the floating village and then cycling to town. Lunch at local restaurant. Afternoon, take a ride on a bamboo train, a local way of transportation to carry people. Then visit the traditional village where they make pottery. Dinner and overnight in Kampong Chhnang.

 

Day 5: Kampong Chhnang-Phnom Penh (90km)
Breakfast at the hotel. Cycle to visit Udong, the former capital of Cambodia in 18 century. There remains some of the previous king stupa stand high on the hill. Enjoy picnic lunch at the food of the hill. After lunch, continue to cycle another 30km to Phnom Penh. Dinner & overnight in Phnom Penh. (B,L,D)

 

Day 6: Phnom Penh (35 km by bicycle)cambodia-adventure5
Explore this bustling city’s major sights by bike, including Wat Phnom, the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda and the National Museum. In the afternoon cycle to the Independence Monument, Tuol Sleng Museum and Choeung Ek killing fields. (BLD)

 

Day 7: Phnom Penh – Takeo (60 km by bicycle)
Cycle to Tonle Bati for a picnic lunch before heading to Phnom Chiso. The summit can be reached via a 180-step climb and offers magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. Later we arrive at Takeo for the night. (BLD)

 

Day 8: Takeo – Kampot (52 km by bicycle)
Drive to the gate of Kabas then cycle to the charming Khmer town of Angkor Borei. We then ride to Phnom Da where we relax and enjoy lunch on the hill top before continuing to Kampot. (BLD)

 

Day 9: Kampot – Kep (35 km by bicycle)Cycling-Takeo1
Leaving Kampot we head for the Phnom Sia limestone caves before arriving at the seaside town of Kep. Here we take a boat trip to the beautiful Rabbit Island for swimming, snorkeling and relaxing. Return to Kampot for the night. (BLD)

 

Day 10: Kep – Bokor – Sihanoukville (53 km)
Drive through the fertile Bokor National Park with its abandoned hill station, stopping for lunch at Po Pok Vil Waterfalls for some respite. Cycle on the quiet road from Bokor to Veal Rihn, the junction of the National Road No.4. From here, it is getting busier, be caution for the traffic. In the afternoon we arrive at the quiet beach resort town of Sihanoukville. (BLD).

 

Day 11: Sihanoukville – Ream (56km)cambodia-adventure6
Today we cycle to the Ream Maritime National Park with mangrove forests, offshore coral reefs and fishing villages. Explore the jungles and mangrove swamps by boat, a fishing village and a small tropical island. Later we boat back to port and cycle to Sihanoukville. (BLD)

 

Day 12: Sihanoukville – Phnom Penh Departure
Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy the swimming and walking on the calm beach before transfer to Phnom Penh for departure flight.

Road Surface This tour mostly follows asphalt roads, and one dirt road passing the countryside and the rice field. The back road along the river and village is small but good enough for cycling, less busy. A little bit sandy.
